The Public Relations Coordinator manages media outreach, newsletters, and email campaigns to increase visibility and expand CKF’s reach within schools, communities, and partner networks.

College Knowledge Foundation (CKF) is a non-profit 501(c)(3) organization dedicated to empowering high school students—particularly first-generation, low-income, and minority students, as well as veterans, adult learners, and foster youth—by providing the knowledge, tools, and resources they need to succeed in their college journey. Through our comprehensive sessions and personalized services, we bridge the gap between high school and college so every student, regardless of background, can achieve their educational goals.

Position Description

As a Public Relations Coordinator Intern at College Knowledge Foundation, you will help expand our reach and visibility by managing outreach to media outlets, community partners, and schools, while also supporting the development and distribution of our monthly email newsletter and campaign emails. You’ll work closely with the marketing team to promote CKF’s programs, events, and updates to external audiences in a clear, mission-driven, and compelling way. This role is ideal for someone interested in public relations, communications, journalism, or nonprofit storytelling.

Responsibilities

  • Draft and distribute press releases to local and regional media outlets

  • Identify and reach out to potential community and school partners for collaborations

  • Research and maintain media and outreach contact lists

  • Write, edit, and format monthly newsletters and donor updates

  • Draft and send emails promoting sessions, events, or campaigns

  • Collaborate with the marketing team to align public messaging with ongoing initiatives

  • Assist in creating messaging for special campaigns (e.g., Giving Tuesday, end-of-year recap)

  • Track email performance metrics (open rates, click-through rates) and report key findings

  • Represent CKF professionally in external communications and outreach efforts

Hours

The weekly time commitment is negotiable and flexible. Most team meetings occur in the late afternoon Eastern Time to accommodate members’ full-time jobs.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Strong writing and editing skills with attention to grammar and tone

  • Interest in public relations, communications, journalism, or marketing

  • Experience with Mailchimp or other email marketing platforms (or willingness to learn)

  • Comfortable reaching out to media contacts and community organizations

  • Ability to adapt messaging to various audiences (students, parents, donors, schools)

  • Organized, deadline-driven, and comfortable working collaboratively with a team
