First Day of Class

The first day of class, annoying teachers, old friends coming back, a season of tests, something that every student dreads, at least, that was the thought in high school. College is a little bit different, it's a new vibe, a chance to make new friends, pursue careers, and make memories. The first day of class for a college student is different for everyone, depending on your major, but it's not like high school.

The first day of class might include your new professor going over a syllabus, assigning you materials, or even putting you in groups, but it will be a whole different environment. Whether you're dorming, commuting or enrolling online, the first day of college is a chance for you to make your mark. For your first day in the fall semester, I want you to remember these 3 steps as you venture your college journey.

Speak Your Mind

Oftentimes, you will have to go out of way for things. You might have to send the first email, text message, or even introduce yourself to classmates. However, it is important that you speak your mind, regardless if you're going to be friends, or colleagues with the people that you meet. You will meet people that you like, dislike, or people that will not be relevant to your life, so heed these words and speak your mind on what's important to you, and eventually, the right people will come along.

Go Outside

College is about experiences, the friends you will make will most likely be from dorms, classrooms, clubs, events, etc. But, how will you meet these people staying at home? College is the best way to make connections, especially because everyone is more mature in their goals, and wants to have a fresh start at university. I think the best friends I have ever made were from my classes, and those friends are people that I couldn't imagine my life without. Go outside, make new friends, and try to enjoy your college experience.

Work Harder

College is not like highschool, it is not easy. College is a time where people lock in, stay up late at night, and pass their classes. Unlike highschool, you have to study hard, harder than you did in high school, and you are more obligated to succeed, especially because you are paying for an education. College is a time where you have to balance work, school, and relationships. This isn't the time to work hard, but work harder.
